1969 in the sunshine...
For all his dippiness, there's a half-dozen or so really-good-to-great Donovan songs. "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", "Happiness Runs", "Barabajagal", "Atlantis", "Catch the Wind", and this rare alternate version of "Colours". About two minutes of it can be heard--gorgeously remastered--in the movie Rules Of Attraction, but Lion's Gate didn't bother to dig up the right version of the song for the official soundtrack album. They just used the original, pale-ass version that isn't even really the same song. Turns out the one actually used in the movie was recorded four years after the original, and appeared on Donovan's Greatest Hits LPs and cds between '69 and the early 90s, when it was re-replaced with the original, and "version III" was forgotten until Rules Of Attraction--and still pretty much forgotten since. Luckily for you I bothered to seek it out on the original vinyl, 'cause it's one of the finest songs of the '60s. I'll take it over anything on the pitchfork 200 best list, other than the Beach Boys stuff and "I Wanna Be Your Dog". Ok, now "I Can't Explain" "Waterloo Sunset", and "You're Gonna Miss Me" are all like schizo voices in my head giving me shit for saying that...

I have spent years, literally, trying to find this version of this song. I found Colours Version III on a UK import that was for sale on ebay, but the seller wanted a LOT more money for it than I was willing to spend. All of the versions I have downloaded off iTunes (and all of the versions of the song are good, but this is the version that first caught my attention and that I fell in love with) are a tad different than this one - the one I first heard in the movie Rules of Attraction - and just aren't quite as good.

The first time I hear that song was on the OST of "Rules of attraction". Great movie btw. Not as good as the book but still...
I looked over the Internet to find this song, and there was no way that I could find it.
So I bought the OST because I thought the soundtrack was quite good, and that song, made me fly more than once.
And when I heard the version of the record of "Colours" by Donovan, i was VERY DISAPOINTED! This was not the version that I wanted, which is, as you said, gorgeously remastered!
I worked my ass on the internet to find it, like #3 did, and had a hard time to find it.
And now, after 4 years of research, you made my dream almost come true!
